Good News, Bad News....

It is winter break and for the past week and a half I have been EATING MY WAY THROUGH THE HOLIDAYS! Yikes!!

So with that I have good news and bad news!

Bad News: I didn't lose A POUND these past few weeks....boooooooooooooo

Good News: The good news I didn't GAIN A POUND EITHER!!!! Yay!! I did work out a few times while home so that I am sure helped a lot.

I plan to register for the Rosy Cheek Run and the Red Flannel Run in February! If you would like you should do this with me :) I am new to the Rosy Cheek Run! They are both 5K (3 miles). You can do it!!! The Rosy Cheek Run is in Story City and the Red Flannel is in Downtown Des Moines.

Hopefully I will have a pound gone by the end of next week! Small steps, right?!?

Back At It!

I am back to running after a WEEK of a stinkin' nasty cold. I still have remnants of the cold left but was itching to run again. I am extremely thankful to my dear Lord for the desire to run!

I am currently looking for a race to run in January. My goal for 2010 is to run a 5K race each month with June being the big 1/2 marathon (Dam-to-Dam). I am still not certain I will run the 1/2 marathon but I am going to train for it and hopefully I stick to it!!!

Anyone want to join me for this ambitious goal?!? Please do!

Here is to the next round of food, fun, and family!

Also, any suggestions for some yummy easy snacks that won't ruin all the work I am doing?

Not Sure........

So this fantastic weekend started out by getting SICK.....AGAIN! I am never sick this much. The common cold has settled in for the next few days :)

I am still working out but wondering if it is good for me. My breathing ability is not the best when sick ;) Hopefully I am not killing myself.

I also am trying to find fun things to do outside so that I don't eat anymore oreos! They were supposed to be used for a cookie recipe I never got to because I ate most of the oreos!!!!!

Any ideas for winter activities that are little to no cost to myself?

BTW...if you are looking for something new and yummy to try:
* Plain yogurt (or you favorite kind) with cranberries and orange (I food process whole cranberries and a peeled orange together)

It is REALLY YUMMY!!!!

SNOW DAYS.....UFF DAH!

I do love snow days! As a teacher there is nothing better then waking up and finding out you have a day off :)

Here is the draw back.....I EAT EVERYTHING IN SIGHT! Time the snow days by 2 and boy am I in trouble! Oreos are the devil, btw......

Due to the current weather conditions it has also been very hard to go and run. I would never have guessed I would miss my workout. It is something that has become such a part of me and my day. I use that time to release stress and refocus on things that are important to me. I also use it to listen to my CRAZY music :) (Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment is super fun to run to!)

Hopefully today I will finally get to the gym and give my running shoes a workout!

Don't think I don't want these days :) I DO! I WILL TAKE THEM ANY DAY! Just need to remember to not eat my way through the days!

Jingle Jam!!!

On December 5th, 2009 I ran my first 5K in 2 years! It was soooo fun! I got to run through the Blank Park Zoo! How fun!

Here is a picture of me in my jingle wear :) We sure did have fun (Kristie and Paul did it too!) I even beat my old time by 6 MINUTES!!!

Thanks to the folks that cheered me on and reminded me that it is about me and finishing and not about me and being last!

I ran the entire 3 miles and finished in 40 minutes! Yay!!!!

Some Background and a Bit of an Update!

Running! I love running! I want to run more! I want to encourage others to run!

Nearly 2 years ago I started to run with the support of 2 of my friends. I enlisted the assistance of a "coach" and set out to train for the Iowa Dam-to-Dam 1/2 marathon. The training schedule meant that many after school "free times" would now be spent running. I would find myself (and my best friend) running around our school building, running around the parking lot, running around my neighborhood, or running at Gray's Lake. It was a slow process.

When I started to run I was 263 pounds! I can't believe I am writing that! During my training time I lost around 10 pounds but that was all. The foods that I consumed did not really change and often I just lied to myself about what I was eating. The excitement of doing something new was certainly there and I was exercising more then I ever had. I did my first 5K, my first 8K, and finished with my first 1/2 marathon! I was proud of what I did and then completely stopped running. Not sure why.........

2 years later I am writing to just journal about what I have started to do and hopefully be held accountable for my actions and the promises I have made to myself. In June of 2009 I started to workout regularly again and by October 2009 I was down 30 pounds! The foods I eat are drastically different and the amount of effort given to working out has changed. Now that I am back to running I am seeing a whole new part of myself. My confidence is quickly being restored (not sure I ever really had a lot). I have made incredible friends and continue to have my best friend!

Normally I won't journal this much but thought I should give a little background.
